Benefits

Adding Higromite to your soil profile Increases Moisture Retention, and offers these other benefits as well.

•Completely Organic

• Allows Soil to ABSORB and HOLD water

• Uncanny Ability to "Kick Out" Sodium Ions found with the use of De-Salinated or Reclaimed Water

• Reduces Frequency of Watering

• Increased Quality and Quantity of Yields

• Reduced Use of Fertilizers

• Helps Balance ph Factor of the Soil

• Reduces Compaction of the Soil Profile

• Accelerates Blooming and Optimizes Maturation

• Reduces Labor Costs with Intensive Plant and Crop Management

• Allows for the Efficient Movement of Water

• Adds to the Permanent Availability of Water to Crops and Plants

Tests show that by adding Higromite to your SOIL provides the following results:

• Moisture release curve. Higromite has the tremendous ability to not only absorb a considerable amount of moisture, under tension as in a root zone without expansion (excessive expansion as in polyacrylamides leads to no available oxygen), but to also release this stored moisture prior to the theoretical (verses ultimate) wilt point or the point at which you will re-irrigate.

• The "uncanny" ability to "kick out" sodium ions is another benefit from Higromite. With the increased use of de-salinated or reclaimed water, this attribute is very important to commercial operations and there effectiveness in annual yields.

• We are well supplied with macro and micro nutrients (unlike clays) with a decent Cat Ion Exchange Capacity (CEC). Please click here for a full list

• Accelerated maturation and increased yields.  This has been proven out by numerous tests from Malcolm Beck to Becker Underwood Laboratories.

• Reduced compaction and increased available oxygen due to our non-capillary porosity or air holding capacity.

• Tremendous hydraulic conductivity to provide hemispheric moisture within a root zone.  This is one reason why the product has performed so well with subsurface drip irrigation which is being used widely in agriculture.

• Tremendous longevity (still producing decreased irrigation requirements for clients in the deserts of the Middle East after 8 years and counting).

Available Sizes

Ό” minus size - this product is the most versatile for large scale agricultural applications with field crops and orchards.  It is best used in sand based soil profiles.

7x20 micron size – this is our premier high temperature calcined material which is widely used as topdressing in the golf industry.  The material is ideal for clay based soil profiles

18x60 micron size – this material is a finer version of the popular 7x20 size and is another option for turf applications.  It can also be used in custom soil mixes for seedlings and plants with fine root systems.

Ύ”x Ό” rock – this size is used for a variety of applications in hydroponics.  It can be used commercially in large scale Greenhouse environments as a topdressing or soil less media for various fruits, vegetables, and unique plant species.

½”x Ό” rock – this size is best used in custom soil mixes for potted plants, cones, and Greenhouse applications.

Application Guidelines

We pride ourselves on providing the best solutions to our commercial clients.  Our process includes a full assessment of the client’s current commercial growing environment.  We gather the necessary information about the soil profile, growing environment, challenges with limited irrigation resources, and any other factors necessary to customize the best solution possible.  Here are some typical application guidelines:

Field Crops:
Apply by Disking or Roto tilling at a rate of 10% to 20% by volume in the top 4 to 6 inches of the soil depending on the profile. One to two tons of Higromite per 1,000 square feet is a common ratio.

Greenhouses: Higromite can be used as a top dressing, blended with Coco, Perlite, or Peat at a customized ratio.  It can also be used with an Aqua Mat.

Trees/Shrubs/Container Plants:
Add a mixture of one part Higromite to five parts potting soil.

Injection/Drill and Fill:
Application of a minimum of 400 to 500 pounds per 1,000 square feet is recommended when utilizing drill and fill or injection equipment.
